The Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateway network met in person for the first time in over two years last month. The network of 16 Gateways hosted a networking event in the famous setting of Croke Park bringing together industry and technology providers, with gateways and businesses attending in their numbers. It welcomed all types of Irish business such as start-ups, small and medium enterprises, large indigenous companies, and multinationals. Noting the energy in the room, the Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateway programme manager, Mark Whelan, opened proceedings to all with a sense of optimism to the future with a friendly return to in person events.

The gateway team of Carol Faughnan and Jim Prendergast were in attendance representing Walton Institute. The TSSG Technology Gateway is the commercial interface of Walton Institute and is available to support start-ups, micro-SMEs, and scaling SMEs in direct industry projects. In partnership with Enterprise Ireland, our role is to deliver technology solutions through collaboration on projects which are close to the market needs of the Irish industry.

One of the speakers at the event was Kieran Coffee from MyGug, whose company turns food waste into biogas. Kieran spoke in depth about their partnership with a sister gateway, WISAR in Atlantic Technological University in Letterkenny, where the team have worked closely with Kieran over the past number of years using the innovation voucher program.

The innovation voucher programme is a series of vouchers from Enterprise Ireland that clients can use with a knowledge provider such as a Gateway. Companies can avail of these up to €20,000 with €5,000 from themselves.

This was also a landmark Technology Gateway event for South East Technological University (SETU) as it was the first time the four gateways across Waterford and Carlow came together as one entity. SEAM, PMBRC, Design+ and TSSG Technology Gateway discussed many possibilities for future collaboration and complementary services to strengthen the impact of SETU on industry throughout the southeast region.
