International Mobility Conference, Oct 2022

Walton Institute attended the International Mobility Conference on the 25 and 26 of October at the beautiful Melia hotel in the picturesque coastal town Stiges in Spain, 35 kilometres southwest of Barcelona.

The conference, organised by the Association of Municipalities for Mobility and Urban Transport (AMTU), the Autoritat del Transport Metropolità de l’àrea de Barcelona (ATM), the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Diputació de Barcelona, the Catalan Association of Municipalities and Counties (ACM), and the Ajuntament de Sitges, aimed to promote various mobility sectors and upcoming changes to aid in the integration of technology into this sector.

Waltons participation

Walton attended this conference as part of the European project E-CORRIDOR to mutually explore commercial opportunities to exploit this technology and participate in conversations and presentations taking place throughout the two-day event. The primary goal of this event was to present the current state of the technology involved in the project, which was followed by an exploitation brainstorming session led by Dr Pat Lynch of South East Technological University (SETU).

E-CORRIDOR chose this event to give like-minded individuals in this sector the opportunity to express their ideas and voice their concerns about the platform before its full deployment as a flexible, secure, and privacy-aware framework allowing confidential, distributed, and edge-enabled security service.

Conclusion of the event

James O’Rourke, Junior Software Research Engineer in Walton Institute, attended the conference, the first face-to-face event within the E-CORRIDOR project. “Having joined this consortium during Covid restrictions, it was great to finally meet the rest of the partners of this project face-to-face, whilst also attending a well-presented conference,” he said. “The content on display was very educational, demonstrating that even in difficult times, technological progress can be made.”

Following this event, all data collected – platform questions, potential issues, and exploitation options – will be used to aid in the further exploitation of E-CORRDIDOR before the project comes to a close in 2023.
