South East Technological University (SETU) is expanding their Horizon Europe activities in Cybersecurity and Next Generation Internet.

    Horizon security projects

Jim Clarke from Walton Institute at South East Technological University (SETU) addressed several Horizon Europe projects in cybersecurity-related fields with a large contingent of EU experts over the course of a week at the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd in Oulu, Finland. SETU, specifically Walton Institute, actively collaborates with colleagues in Finland, Cyprus, Italy, France, Germany, Croatia, Hungary, and many more nations as a member of the European Cyber Security Organisation (ECSO). The discussions in Oulu were focused on improving our digital experiences while securing our future wellbeing, freedoms, democratic governance, and prosperity, while also improving our capacity to protect the EU from malicious attacks and to address general weaknesses in digital security across a variety of sectors, including telecommunications, railways, and other transport sectors.

    Primary goal of VTT

The primary goal of VTT, one of Europe’s top research organisations with an emphasis on visionary research, is to create sustainable solutions for both clients and society. Jim Clarke, EU Strategic Liaison Manager in Walton Institute, and cybersecurity expert, expressed his views on the importance of such a gathering, “It was evident that the VTT Oulu team, who graciously hosted the meetings, is firmly engaged in investigating techniques for protecting vital infrastructure and information networks. The work we discussed is closely tied to our work within the Next Generation Internet Initiative (NGI) of the European Commission, which intends to direct the growth and evolution of the internet into an Internet of Humans, in addition to our conversations on cybersecurity. The NGI initiative involves creating an internet that satisfies people’s basic requirements, such as inclusiveness, security, and trust, while also reflecting the beliefs and customs of all citizens in Europe.”

Clarke manages one of the NGI projects, NGIatlantic.eu, which extends the NGI initiative’s reach across the Atlantic to the United States.
