Personal Summary

Aileen Drohan joined Walton Institute in 2021. Her current role is Software Research Engineer in the Mobile Ecosystem & Pervasive Sensing (MEPS) Division, specialising in e-textiles.

Prior to joining Walton Institute, Aileen worked as a professional photographer and part-time lecturer in art and photography at SETU. Working in a variety of media, including photography, video, sound, and physical computing, she has exhibited nationally and internationally, including Glitch Festival 2016 at Rua Red in Dublin; Platform Arts in Belfast 2014; and Tallinn, Estonia in 2013. As a makerspace enthusiast, she has delivered numerous workshops on basic electronics, programming, and microcontrollers, including Cruinniú na nÓg 2019, Sonic Dreams Festival 2015, and SawFest 2104.

Projects

Aileen is project lead on Yarning Connections, funded by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Discover Programme, and is a current contributor to Cities2030, an EU Horizon 2020 project. Previously, she led Refashioning the Future, supported by Waterford City and County Council (WCCC) and Creative Ireland, and is actively engaged in STEM education, collaborating with WCCC library services and CALMAST in the delivery of e-textile workshops in Co. Waterford and the South East.
